Malayambadi Narasimha Temple in Tirur Taluk, Malappuram, was found with its idols mutilated and lying in the temple compound — damage the recovered idols suggest was deliberate, dating to the riots that struck the region. The temple's large pond, later encroached and taken over for public use, points to the fierce nature of the Narasimha form worshipped here. For decades, an elderly woman of the locality kept lighting a lamp at the ruined site, even as devotees' own repeated attempts at restoration were held back by lack of resources.
Noted Tantrashastra and Shilpashastra expert Kanippayyur Kuttan Namboothirippad prepared the design for the new Garbhagriha, visiting the site on 20 March 2019 to measure the ruins. The Deity was shifted to a temporary sanctum on 11 May 2019, the old Garbhagriha was dismantled within the week, and Shilanyas — laying the foundation stones afresh — followed on 24 May 2019.
The temple well was restored, and the Garbhagriha's foundation and stone base were completed. Shadadhara Pratishta rituals, which install six sacred energy centres for the Deity as per Tantrashastra, were performed on 12–13 July 2019, after which work began on the Garbhagriha's walls. The Punah Pratishta ceremonies, consecrating Bhagwan Narasimha by the same Shadadhara rites, were held over 30 May – 6 June 2022.
