Cholakkara Durga Temple

Durga Malappuram, Kerala
About this temple

Sanctum complete; Nalambalam under construction; litigation ongoing

Cholakkara Durga Temple's Garbhagriha, boundary walls, and temple kitchen are complete. The temple pond — 11 cents recovered from encroachment, alongside 26 cents of temple land — was reclaimed by UgraNarasimha Devaswom a century after it was first lost.

Work is now on the Nalambalam, the outer enclosure around the Garbhagriha: the foundation and base are complete, with walls and ceiling next — the final stage before re-consecration. Two civil cases and one criminal case brought by encroachers are ongoing, and the Devaswom is undertaking both the restoration and the litigation.
