Challissery, in Palakkad district, was ravaged during the Mysorean invasion of Kerala, and Kizhakke Pattissery Prani Mahadeva Temple — known here as Challisserry Prani Mahadeva Temple — was one of many ancient temples left in ruins there. The Shivalinga itself survived intact, though the Garbhagriha and surrounding structures did not; devotees lit a lamp at the site daily regardless, and had tried for more than a decade to restore it before UgraNarasimha Devaswom took up the work.
The design for the new Garbhagriha was prepared by Sadanandan Achary, a noted temple architecture expert, following Tantrashastra. Restoration began by strengthening a temporary roof so that work could continue through the rains, then moved through dismantling and rebuilding the Garbhagriha's walls, ceiling, plastering, and the Namaskara Mandapam.
The temple was restored after two and a half centuries in ruins. Punah Pratishta ceremonies were held on 17 February 2021, the Shivalinga was returned to the Garbhagriha, and — for the first time in centuries — Shivratri could once again be celebrated at the temple.
