Alathiyur Subrahmanya Temple

Kunnamkulangara Subrahmanya temple in Alathiyur village of Malappuram district Kerala was lying in ruins for many decades since the riots of 1921. The idols of Ganesha and Subrahmanya were mutilated during those times and these idols still remain awaiting worship.

The temple plan and measurements were then finalised as per the advice of Brahmadattan Namboodirippad who is an expert in Tantrashastra.

The revival of the temple is a long cherished dream of the Hindu community of the locality. The temple had huge tracts of land earlier, but was encroached upon with time. The present temple site was also encroached. Shri Muthedathu Thamburan whose family once owned the temple led a determined legal fight and got the temple back from encroachers. His only wish now is to see the temple rebuilt and pray to the Deity there.

Reconstruction

The reconstruction of the temple will start on 23 Aug 2018, as advised by astrologer. We will be rebuilding the temple as per the traditional ways and using stones.

Foundation work complete

Dismantling of old Garbagriha complete, foundation work of new Garbagriha to start soon

As mentioned in last update, the temporary sanctum called Balalayam was built and the next step was the shifting of Deities to the said sanctum. This was done on 10.9.2018 by the Chief Priest of the temple attended to by all the devotees.

After this was undertaken the dismantling of the old sanctum sanctorum. This was essential as the entire structure was in totally dilapidated condition and is to be completely replaced by new sanctum sanctorum.

The work of disassembling the temple started after the Deities were shifted. This was completed by 14.9.2018.

Next step was the ritual whereby the measurements of the new sanctum is marked on the ground. This was done on 15.9.2018 by Sthapathi, Chief Priest and also attended by Tantrasastra expert Shri Brahmadattan Namboodiri. The next step is the foundation work of the new Garbagriha which will start soon.

PunarPrathishta done and completion of the project

Its a great pleasure to share that the Punar Prathishta rituals (consecration of Deity again) has been conducted as per Shastras and the project has concluded as on 11 July 2019.

The administration of the temple has been handed over to a committee comprising of devotees from the village. A full time priest has also been appointed and now Pujas are happening twice a day. All rituals associated with Subrahmanya worship is happening.

People of the village are feeling an atmosphere of positivity and many people have already started sharing experiences of good turns of events after praying at the temple.

The Alathiyur Subrahmanya temple which was lying in ruins for close to a century has been restored and Punar Pratishta done. We have made a small video briefly mentioning the story of the temple from ruins to restoration and also to express our heartfelt gratitude for all those who supported the project.
