We encountered various roadblocks and difficulties in the restoration process.

A Devaprashnam or astrological consultation was held under Brahmasree Sudheer Namboodhiri, the former Chief Priest of Sabarimala temple. During the calculation and reinspection it was found that the broken Vigraha for whom the Garbagriha was being constructed is that of Srikrishna. Hence it was decided to use the present Garbagriha for Srikrishna, the title of the fundraiser is also being changed to reflect the same.

Avanamkulam Srikrishna temple is an ancient Hindu temple at Edachalam village in Kuttipuram in the Malappuram district of Kerala which was destroyed during the invasion of Tipu Sultan. The temple is several centuries old and has been lying in ruins ever since.

The people of the locality started the restoration of this temple in 1988 but couldn’t complete it due to lack of resources. Even today they worship the feet of the Deity which is the only remains after the idols was cutoff to pieces by invading forces.

UgraNarasimha Charitable Trust has undertaken to complete the restoration and revive worship at this ancient temple.

Avanamkulam Bhadrakali temple is an ancient Hindu temple located in Edachalam village in Kuttipuram within the Malappuram district of Kerala, India. This historic temple has deep cultural significance, being a site of spiritual and communal activities for centuries. Unfortunately, the entire temple complex was destroyed during the invasions led by Tipu Sultan in the 18th century, a loss felt profoundly by the local community. The presence of a fierce Goddess was strongly felt during the Devaprashnam rituals conducted at the temple, leading to a collective decision to reconstruct the temple dedicated to the Goddess, allowing devotees to once again engage in worship and experience the divine blessings of Bhadrakali.

The UgraNarasimha Charitable Trust has taken the noble initiative to restore this temple, recognizing its importance to the local community and the broader Hindu faith. Their commitment involves not only the physical restoration of the temple structure but also reviving the rich traditions and rituals associated with the temple. This includes organizing community events, educational programs about the temple’s history, and engaging local artisans in the restoration work, thus ensuring that the project supports local livelihoods while preserving cultural heritage.

In addition to physical restoration, the Trust is planning to hold workshops and seminars aimed at educating the youth about the temple’s history, its architectural significance, and the various rituals associated with the worship of Bhadrakali. Engaging the younger generation is essential to ensure that the temple’s legacy continues to thrive for future generations. This educational approach will also include inviting local scholars and religious leaders to share their insights and foster a deeper understanding of the cultural and spiritual significance of the temple.

The restoration project is not just about rebuilding walls; it’s about rekindling the spiritual energy that this temple has historically represented. The community’s involvement is crucial, as seen in various restoration efforts across India where local participation has led to successful outcomes. For instance, the restoration of the Kashi Vishwanath temple in Varanasi involved local artisans and craftsmen, which not only preserved traditional techniques but also fostered a renewed sense of ownership and pride among the local population.

In order to facilitate the restoration, the Trust has initiated various fundraising efforts, recognizing that financial support plays a vital role in the success of such projects. We are exploring diverse avenues for donations, including online crowdfunding platforms, community fundraising events. The involvement of the broader community in these fundraising efforts can help ensure that the temple is rebuilt not only with financial resources but also with the love and devotion of its future devotees.

The restoration of the Bhadrakali temple has officially commenced, marking a significant milestone after 250 years of decline. This revival serves not only as a restoration of the physical structure but as a rejuvenation of spiritual life in the community. Community members are invited to participate actively in the restoration process, whether through volunteering their time, sharing resources, or spreading the word to gather support. This collective effort aims to create a sense of unity and purpose among the devotees, reinforcing the significance of the temple as a center for worship.

On 25 July 2023, the Trust organized a community event to raise awareness about the restoration and to invite more devotees to contribute to this noble cause. Such events are crucial in building a robust support network and fostering a sense of belonging among the devotees. During this event, local artists showcased their talents through traditional music and dance, celebrating the rich cultural heritage of the region while also emphasizing the importance of the temple in preserving these traditions.

May the Godhead bless our intent into making this a success. We also request your cooperation by donating with the best of your ability. We seek your support because nothing is possible without the devotees.

It is the bhakti and shraddha of the bhakts which influences and motivates us into reclaiming our rich heritage and culture.

The temple’s design and architecture are also areas of focus during the restoration. Experts in temple architecture are being consulted to ensure that the new structure mirrors the original design while incorporating modern techniques for sustainability and durability. This balance of traditional and contemporary practices will help ensure that the temple stands strong for generations to come, symbolizing the resilience of the community’s faith and culture.

Looking ahead, the temple complex is envisioned to transform into a major spiritual center in Malappuram over the next twelve years. This transformation will not only serve local devotees but also attract visitors from around the world, eager to experience the rich spiritual heritage and participate in religious festivities. The Trust plans to organize regular festivals, rituals, and educational programs that engage both the local community and visitors, creating a vibrant atmosphere around the temple.

Additionally more granite stones are being brought at the temple site. Our team strives to increase the pace of work by staying consistent.

The granite in the shot below can be seen to be kept down from the career by the olden methods. Placing a wooden log and by tying ropes at both the end of the granite slab, it is pulled down, also the team ensures that there is no wastage or breaking of the granites.

15 March, 2024

In conclusion, the revival of the Avanamkulam Bhadrakali temple is not merely an architectural endeavor but a holistic movement aimed at restoring a vital aspect of the community’s identity. The involvement of devotees, local artisans, and cultural educators will ensure that this sacred space thrives, fostering devotion, cultural exchange, and community engagement for years to come. Each contribution, whether through donations, volunteer work, or participation in events, plays a crucial role in this endeavor. Together, we can reclaim our heritage and build a future that honors the past.

Bhadrakali is revered as a fierce deity embodying the power to obliterate evil and restore harmony. As such, constructing her temple requires meticulous attention to detail, especially in the Garbagriha, or sanctum sanctorum, which is designed to house the idol of the deity. Maintaining an open Garbagriha during construction reflects a deep respect for the divine presence and ensures that the deity’s energy can continuously bless the site. This practice is rooted in centuries of tradition and illustrates the deep connection between the temple and its worshippers.

The temple complex will evolve into a major spiritual centre in Malappuram in the span of next twelve years.

Pedestals for Bhadrakali Temple

We seek your constant support and valuable suggestions through the form of active donations and visiting the sites, whichever is convenient.

With the help of active involvement, we together can rebuild the temple at a faster pace.

As the Goddess has been lying as ruins for around 250 years, such gross fact is very disturbing and requires immediate restoration, many such projects are being undertaken by the organisation.

We will strive our way into reviving the lost culture and heritage, and we together can surely make a difference.

Avanamkulam Subrahmanya Temple – Background

The people of the locality started the restoration of this temple in 1988 but couldn’t complete it due to lack of resources. Even today they worship the feet of the Deity BalaSubrahmanya which is the only remains after the idols was cutoff to pieces by invading forces.

Avanamkulam Subrahmanya temple

The entire temple complex was in ruins for at least two centuries. The temple compound were later used for slaughter purposes by non believers.

The temple ruins were found and documented by UgraNarasimha Charitable Trust as part of the efforts to restore 300 ancient temples in ruins.

Astrological calculations via Devaprashnam by Brahmasree Sudheer Namboodhiri, former Chief Priest of Sabarimala temple showed presence of certain influences made to stall the revival of this temple. During the calculation and reinspection it was found that the broken Vigraha for whom the Garbagriha was being constructed is that of Srikrishna. Hence it was decided to use the present Garbagriha for Srikrishna.

The ceiling work of Avanamkulam Subrahmanya temple in Malappuram is going on. Devotees tried for some three decades for restoration of this destroyed temple, each time it got stalled due to accidents and physical harm to those involved. When we took over, during prasna chintanam it became clear that marana kriyas were done on the temple compound to cause death, and Arab occult practices were regularly being done to stall the revival of the temple. This is one reason why not everybody will be able to reclaim temples, there are so many evil forces which try to stall the work somehow.  Our position has been to just paralyse and remove the negative influences, then sanctify the land.

Bhagavati Sewa

29 December, 2023

Bhagawati Sewa was conducted at the Avanamkulam Subrahmanya temple in Malappuram. Devotees attended in large numbers and lit lamps. All those who gave names were included in the puja. Restoration work to continue. The auspicious lighting of lamps was felt devotional, as the devotees with their pure shraddha lit lamps and all the work in restoring the temple felt wholesome.

The work on Garbhagriha continues as we try to ensure that nothing is compromised in the revival of our Subrahmanya Temple.

This temple is part of the #ReclaimTemples project in Kerala to rebuild 300 ancient Hindu Heritage temples that are lying in ruins for decades and centuries. We believe the project will strengthen the society and along with their social, economic and cultural prosperity.

But to ensure the steady revival by following all the rituals, we require your support through donations. It is our heartfelt request to take a moment to think about the injustice which has occurred without deities because of the roughness and history which very very few people acknowledge. We need to retell history as it has been with pros and cons of the era. Our team is trying its best to work day and night to maintain the projects with only one motive to RECLAIM TEMPLES.

To understand the heart and mind of a person, look not at what he has already

achieved, but at what he aspires to.

Starting a recurring donation helps us fast forward the restoration efforts.
